Time table

Dear Friends,

We are introducing here a tentative version of the Muszyna Almanac Chronology, which is aimed at those who are interested in the history of Muszyna. Within this calendar of events we would like to remind you what happened a few hundred, a few tens or a few years ago, and which had some connection with the history of Muszyna. This collection has come about as a result of a review of books, studies, publications, the regional press and other available sources of information.

We should like to emphasise that this is a tentative version which still requires a great deal of work and a critical approach, and to this end, we hope to obtain the help of specialists, collectors and experts in various fields. It is very important to us not to duplicate any errors that may have crept in. We would like to emphasise the following principles upon which we based our preparations of the Muszyna Almanac Chronology:

Aim of the Undertaking
To collate within one document the dates of events linked with the history of the state of Muszyna as well as the social life of its inhabitants. We would like the chronology to open the successive pages of the forgotten history of Muszyna. We often include facts that seem insignificant, but they too add to the mosaic of the history of Muszyna.

Range of territory covered
It refers to the area which is covered by the definition of the Muszyna state, although in exceptional circumstances we broaden the scope to include other areas, if the matter indirectly concerns the area in question. The history of Muszyna cannot be fully understood without looking at the fortunes of Krynica and Żegiestów and vice versa. More and more, these three areas appear to fit the description of the Tri-spa.

Means of presentation
The presentation principle we have adopted, ie from 1 July to 30 June (known as the agreed Almanac year), does not bear criticism as regards days, from the scientific point of view. Agreed, however, our work is not scientific, by nature it is something that is basically widely known. Moreover, changing the layout in future so as to collate the dates in chronological order is not a problem for us, and we promise to do so. Quotations are written in italics.

So where to from here?
We want to continue building the collection and it is bound to take more time than originally anticipated. Due to constraints of time and field of activity, we shall not be able to finish the work in the year 2000, but something has to be left for the XXI century.

We should like to thank all the Friends of the Muszyna Almanac, who have supported us in this endeavour. Particular thanks go to Leszek Zakrzewski for the Chronology of Dates involving Railways, which is included as an appendix to this Chronology. We are counting on further specialist issues emerging in the future. We would like to draw the attention of the readers to the fact that it is laid out in month order, and each piece of information is preceeded by a figure denoting the day and then the year.

If the following item of information concerns the same day, it is placed underneath, and only the year is given, this means that the given event took place on the same day, of the same month. We would ask you to glance at the text when you have a spare moment. We shall be grateful for any comments, corrections or the filling in of any gaps.
